    Good beef. Tasted fresh.

Just another generic beef stand resting on a name and not much else. The beef is bland, small and expensive! Atmosphere is typical guido south side: boring, uninspired and not a hint of warmth from the staff or the scenery. Unless you have some unexplainable burning desire to pay a lot of money for a little crappy food, avoid this place. It's average at best.

Don't know how people could say it was the best beef they have ever had. Must be limited to a ten block radius with a ten speed because I could name many better beefs.my coworker and I both got the combo and the beef was ok but the sausage tasted like it was made from dingle berry's.

  • Brian N.

Not much I can say but ridiculously expensive for the small portion you get. It is tasty, I'll say that but definitely not worth the price. The inside itself is a dump. When they were at their location on Will-Cook and 143, it was a lot better.

Reminded me of how I felt when I had my first beef sandwich. That was 50 years ago. This is truly the best beef sandwich in Chicago or the suburbs. Had one two days ago and had to go back the next day to have another. Homemade giardanara is excellent. No matter where you're at its worth the trip.

I don't have a reference point since this was my first Chicago "beef". I ordered it dunked with peppers and Giardiniera. Very good. Tender beef, good roll, good condiments. I'd go back.

What a great place. The food was excellent and the place is super clean. Any time I go in there, I always see someone wiping down tables and mopping the floor. It's great to be able to sit down at a clean table. We also order our beef from here for our parties too. We won't go anywhere else!

I love going here when i come to town. The service is great and the beefs are the best around. We ordered to go this time. Got a beef w/hot peppers, a beef w/sweet peppers, a hot dog and a gravy bread. Extra juice please. The only bad thing was one of the sandwiches wasn't wrapped too well, so lots of juice leaked out and got all over. Luckily, they had put in a mess of napkins so they soaked it all up so it didn't make a mess in the car. Unluckily, the napkins soaked up all the extra juice so there wasn't as messy a sandwich as i had expected. I couldn't inhale this sandwich fast enough. Despite having a late lunch, i couldn't stop eating it. So good!! And gravy bread...get outta here!! So juicy, so good. MMMMMMMMMMM I'm drooling just thinking about it now. Go here. Eat beef. Add peppers. Extra juice. Do it up right!!

The beef was pretty good, but I've had better. It costs $5.10 for the Italian beef sandwich, peppers were an extra 40 cents. Compared to other places, it seem to give the average amount of beef, but not enough to make it worth the $5.10. The beef was more flavorful than some other places, but that was about it.

Possibly the best italian beef in the Chicago area! Johnnie's and this place are tied for the best beef in my opinion. The price is on the higher end but the beefs are definitely not skimpy and they are worth the price. This place is always clean and the staff is friendly. I think some of the negative reviews must be for the other mr. Beef locations which I dont think are affiliated with this one, and they definitely aren't as good! The only negative thing I have to say is that their hours don't really make sense. They close way too early!!

Visited for first time in weekday shortly after noon. First off, service was excellent. Cashier was ready to take order, greeted me when I entered and thanked me when I left. The paper towels were even filled without my asking during my visit. The beef was excellent! Nicely seasoned and served hot. Tip: the jr beef is less beef than regular but still should satisfy most appetites. The fries were plain, but salt, pepper, and ketchup was available. Overall excellent first visit, excellent service and excellent food! They even have beer and mints available!

After having MR. Beef in the N. Side (666Orleans) and not liking it much, I decided to stop in in Homer and check out Mr. Beef. The counter girl seemed a little aloof, however let me tell you she was the kindest, sweetest young lady you can imagine. Asked about the beef, and met a very outspoked customer at the counter, she couldn't rave more about MR. Beef. So I ordered a Beef, dipped with a side of sweet peppers, cheese fries and a soft drink, my son picked Raspberry tea, (I had tap water) OMG!! Hands down the best beef sandwich, i have had in years!! The sweet peppers were flavorful and cooked to perfection and plenty of them! Fries were cooked well, but I didn't care for the cheese, my son did though, Later after eating, my son asked to borrow a pencil so he could finish his homework. as I ordered a beef , dipped to go for my wife as mine was so good. The girl at the counter gave him a nice bic pencil, and said, keep this, to remember me, my son was on cloud 9. Best beef I have had in a long while. Courteous staff. The owner is the son of one of the original owners. Stop in have some yummy Italian beef.

The food is not only delicious, but their customer service is great. I don't come here all the time, because they do close early, but when I do I always get excellent service. Today I came in like 5 minutes before closing. I was greeted at the door buy a nice guy telling me their distributor shorted them on bread and they had run out. I told him no problem, I was only coming in for an order of fries and a cup of cheese. They gave me an order of fries and two cups of cheese and told me it was on the house! How nice was that?!

I've been to most of the great beef joints in the city & suburbs. I've even attempted at Steve Dolinsky's list of his all time favorites. I'm about 75% through the list, but this is about Mr. Beef. There's no need to overthink this. It's a really good beef sandwich. It's good bread with a good giardiniera. Apparently the beef sandwich nazi in the kitchen, makes all the sandwiches. I assume he's the owner. I don't mean this is a derogatory way either. It's no different than a Chris Bianco making every pizza at Pizzeria Bianco in Arizona & I respect that. I also love that pizza. At least until a nazi minion comes around, the product is made exactly the same way by the same guy. I'm just not sure what happens if the guy's sick one day. Do they not open? My only issue? If I have the beef sandwich dining in, I like the beef juice on the side. I love dipping as I go along. The juice stays hot & each bite is hot. If I take the sandwich home, I don't want my sandwich dipped, as we know that when you get home, you've got bread that's totally broken down from the juice. So juice on the side is the only way for me. Why the dissertation on an jus on the side? The nazi doesn't allow au jus on the side! I want to understand this. A guy comes along & gets the au jus on the side. He takes the cup of juice to his au jus lab in a secret location in Berwyn. We find out that it's water, garlic, beef drippings, etc, etc, etc. The guy then recreates the the sandwich. Just like that. He sells his trailer home, borrows money from Mom, and opens up his own beef sandwich joint four blocks away from Mr. Beef. He's an overnight success. Mr. Beef is out of business. I get it. I would lose sleep over that too Mr. Beef. Dick Portillo just sold his empire for a billion bucks. And you can get the juice on the side!

I've eaten here before is what I said to myself as I walked in. It must have been over 10 years at least. I am not from the area so that is my excuse. I ordered a Combo Beef & Sausage sandwich with sweet peppers, cheese fries and a drink. It was just under $11. I don't mind spending good money on lunch as long as the meal is tasty. I absolutely loved the seasoning on their homemade Italian Beef. Then combined with an Italian sausage your are in meat heaven! I stopped in late after the lunch rush about 2:30pm so not to many people were dining in. The establishment is clean and kudos to having paper towels tableside.

Best beef sandwich I've ever had. Good flavor and hot peppers are awesome. Quick service.

  • LuLu R.

Whenever I come home I cannot help but to get a Mr Beef. The beef and sausage are flavourfal, both have a nice spice and are not to salty, and the beef is slices so thin you could read a newspaper throughout, which is the way it should be. When you order you sandwich extra extra wet they know how to do it. And, the staff is there is also so sweet and accommodating.

Best beef on the Southside. Good grilled burgers. Great fries. Served beer too

  • Nazario G.

I found them not to long ago , and i was sure glad i did. They have the best beef sandwiches in the area. I usually buy an extra one for lunch the following day. Keep up the good work and thanks for a great beef sandwich

Haven't wrote an update yet so I figured I'd start with this great place. Still the best beefs around and family owned and operated. Friendly staff, clean and quality fast food. A taste of Chicago right here in Homer Glen!

  • Tim O.

This by far the Best beef in Chicago area. I've live here my whole life and I've eaten hundreds of Beef sandwiches. And this is definitely the best. Tender beef and great juice and fresh bread, add the giardinera And the best beef in Chicago is yours

  • Mike M.

I wonder if some of the reviewers ever actually ate at Mr Beef. It is hands down the best Chicago style Beef sandwich you'll find. Never any fat or grizzle, seasoned perfectly, and always larger than average portions. Fries are always cooked when you order them. Price is very reasonable, and the owner and staff are very friendly. It's also always clean. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great beef sandwich. I go there for lunch and dinner whenever I'm in the area.

Welcome Mr. Beef in Homer Glen as the only good restaurant in town. It's greasy, nice portions, and reasonably priced. The good is fast and quick. I would recommend the Beef and the home made Giardinera...If you haven't been it's a must go.

  • Matt H.

Num num! Great Beef and fries!!!!!! Homemade hot peppers are to die for.

    (4)
  • Allen D.

I love the beef and the meatball. If I had one complaint it would be the price. Kinda steep and I truly think Portillos beef is a little bit better. Overall it is the best beef in the area!!!!

  • Jerry S.

I work driving around Chicago and suburbs so I believe I have found this beef sandwich to be one of the most tender, juiciest beefs I ever had ,and I have tried everyone's.KUDOS.. to Mr Beef owner and staff.

  • Nancy B.

My Hubby & myself come out here a few times a month. Absolutely the best beef & sausage!!! Being from the Cicero area, we thought they were gone for goodwhen they closed their location on Ogden in Berwyn. Driving around out there one day we found them. We tried it hoping it was the orignal....it was!! My hubby (being Italian) was in heaven!!! Their pepper & eggs are delicious also. Anything we have had there is great.

Stopped in about 7 PM on a Wednesday after a wake....don't like to eat wake food, the relatives push it, but it's creepy to me. I've never been to Mr. Beef in all the years I've driven by (just gives me a vision of heart attack on a plate), but noticed it was a new location so figured it must be okay if it's still around....couldn't bear a trip to the White Castle that we just passed The beef sandwiches were very good, but too soggy to pick-up, hot peppers were on fire & made my hair sweat. I love RC Cola in a can. It was strangely silent in the establishment, no TV, no music, just the two of us...kind of uncomfortable,

I've been here a few times now, and had to make this a 5 star review! Really great food, and consistent. The employees are some of the nicest people I have met at a restaurant! The beef sandwich is great, and the giardiniera is the good saturated in its own juices stuff. The fries were cooked perfectly! The beef sandwich was massive- But I was kind of hung over and that was my first meal. Maybe thats why I couldn't finish it? The Wife had the bacon cheeseburger this time, and said it was excellent. I would prefer fountain drinks over the cans they have, but I can overlook that. I really don't need a massive amount of pop with my meal. Definitely one of the better beef sandwiches in the area, and worth trying out.

  • Jason A.

This is probably the best beef sandwich in this area. It has plenty of flavor, tender beef, and a great tasting gravy. The meatball sandwich was meh, the fries are frozen crinkle cut, so come here for the beef. The beverages are in a cooler, no fountain drinks or cups of ice. Very clean interior, friendly employees, and great beef without the long travel time. It hits the spot for a beef craving, but Rosario's is still better IMHO. Pepino's is still #1, and eventually I'll make the drive out there again. Please note: They ARE NOT affiliated with Mr. Beef on Orleans!

  • Frank F.

This place is excellent. Italian beef and sausage like Taylor street . Only place to get a REAL beef hot dog in the s/ w subs. This place is a real gem.Tried don's and pop's, who use a really inferior product, that's definitely not beef. they must have got a hell of a deal on the mystery meat hot dogs.( lips and assholes?). Mr. Beef is the real deal. You get what you pay for, a Quality product. Highly recommend this place.

    (5)
  • Vicki E.

Very good Italian Beef. A very surly young counter girl sealed the deal for our never returning. I don't like spending money in an establishment that has a grouchy girl. Too many other places with great beef here in Homer Glen. This is based totally on the order taker!

    (2)
  • Melissa S.

Best beef I've ever had! My only complaint is that their prices go up every time we go back. We would go more often if they weren't so expensive, but we'll keep paying the price for those awesome sandwiches!

  • Jacob K.

Great beef, solid dogs and fries and love the grit from the workers. My kind of place

  • Sal B.

Chicago is known for pizza, hot dogs, and beef sandwiches. You can argue on who has the best pizza and hot dogs but when it comes to the best beef sandwich, the Original Mr. Beef wins hands down. I've had Duke's in Bridgeport,IL ,Al's Beef,Mr. Beef on Orleans,Mr. Beef on Harlem and many other beef stands in Chicago and suburbs but this is my favorite. The beef is always sliced thin, no fat or gristle, and served on good french bread. The juice has the right amount of spices. They have good hot and mild peppers served on the side or on your sandwich. The price of the beef sandwich is kind of high. As of 12/2011,the price of the beef sandwich with peppers is around $6.50. The portions are getting smaller since moving to its new location.

I would like to eat the homemade gardineria like a bowl of chili. The beef is excellent as well and the people are always friendly.

  • Julie O.

I like the big portions of quality, fresh food I get at Mr. Beef's. This far surpasses the other neighborhood fast food places. My current fave is a blue cheese burger and fires. No late night hours, but plenty of parking.

  • Jeffery A.

Okay, I finally got a chance to actually stop in here, and I must say that I was impressed. The dining area is larger than I expected and exceptionally clean. The workers are quite friendly, the service is fast and the quality just gets better, if that is possible. Give Mr. Beef try!

I was so happy when they came to homer glen. having moved out to the area a few years before they arrived, i hadn't had a good beef sandwich in a while. this is my 2nd favorite beef sandwich of all time. it's so good.. can't wait to go back.

  • Matt H.

I wish I had gone to this place sooner as I live about 5 minutes away. GREAT beef...it's nicely spiced, a good amount in the sandwich, lean...very good. I just wish their fries were a bit better. Also, the other menu items I've tried have been great as well. The chicken philly is a great sandwich. It's nearly 7$ but well worth it, you're almost getting 2 chicken breasts. As others have mentioned one of the only downsides is the hours...they aren't open very late and aren't open on Sunday either.

    (5)
  • Angela F.

Original Mr. Beef serves THE best Chicago-style Italian beef sandwich. We have searched far and wide, and eaten many mediocre beefs in order to earn the right to make this statement. The sandwiches are not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for - and we pay gladly. Only two minor irritations: operating hours are limited (if I'm recalling correctly, they aren't open on Sunday), and the service can be a little snippy. We live about 15 minutes from the restaurant and like to grab carry-out on occasion. To accommodate the drive, I'd appreciate the ability to order my sandwich 'dry' and take the au jus on the side - which they just won't do (and can't/won't explain why).

  • S A.

Absolutely the best Italian beef in the world. The high quality beef with just the right spices has me craving one sandwich after another. Friendly service, family run, these people CARE about what they do and it shows. Homer glen is so fortunate to have them. Mmmmm, time for another visit.

  • mick v.

These guys do it right. The spices in the beef and high quality, the Turrano bread has the right amount of crust and chew.. Truly the greatest beef in my book. A lot of other places have terrific food, but what really makes me enjoy Mr Beef is the people, it's run by good hard working family folks from the area. I always have a good experience there.

  • Tony C.

The food is fantastic, the service is fantastic, the prices are lil high but its worth it. Its really good authentic italian beef.

    (5)
  • Vanessa L.

Good service. They even called the house to make sure I was picking up the order because I was a little late getting there. hehe. Their beef sandwiches have to be the best. They don't have too much of a variety of items but if you go here its best to get the beef. The chicken tenders are good also.

    (4)
  • melissa s.

Mr. Beef is the original Italian Beef Sandwich! Others can try, but no one comes close to Mr. Beef! Their beef sandwich is perfectly spiced, and full of lean meat! The Italian beef is my favorite but all of their food is good. Not only is the food excellent, (the only place I will over eat just because it tastes SO good) but the staff is always super friendly and happy to have you! Wish I could eat there every day :)

Best beef in town....beats Al's Beef BY FAR! The "Mr. Beef" is steeped with spicy flavor and thick slices of meat (not paper-thin like Pop's). If you want to best for beef in the area, come here.
